• 1 hr lunch ; 32 hours are guaranteed

Additional Details:

This position is a 50/50 split between clinical nutrition and public health nutrition.

Clinical Nutrition:

• Primarily focused on diabetes management and nutrition counseling
• Significant population of patients taking GLP-1 medications, so candidates should be comfortable providing nutrition guidance related to GLP-1 use, protein intake/replacements, and Vitamin D
• Educating patients on their lab results and what those results mean for their overall health
• Working with a diverse patient population, including elderly, pediatric, and diabetic patients
• Blood glucose monitoring education
• Developing individualized nutrition and exercise plans

Public Health Nutrition:

• Early childhood nutrition
• Community nutrition education
• Teaching nutrition and cooking classes
• Home visits
• Public health programming and education
• Community-based nutrition counseling

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• Experience working with IHS and Native populations is required
• Experience working with underserved communities is strongly preferred
• Public health nutrition knowledge and experience is required
• Must be comfortable working across a broad patient population and balancing both clinical and community-based nutrition responsibilities
• Cannot take a diabetic educator

LICENSE

• Any state license Registered Dietitian with a NPI 

ABOUT THE FACILITY

The creation of the Alamo Navajo School Board in 1979 represented the political birth of the Alamo’s leaders. Taking advantage of the 1975 Indian Self-Determination Act, the School Board was able to contract for its own services, and the Alamo leaders began to make decisions for themselves. The concept of self-determination found fertile ground in a community, which knew it wanted a school, health services, and local control, but previously had no vehicle to obtain those things.

The Board now operates the K-12 schools as well as an Indian Health Clinic, Early Childhood Center, Adult Education Program, Roads Department, Technology Department, & Wellness Center.

The Indian Health Clinic acts as principal point of healthcare services to patients of all ages within the Navajo community. Their Healthcare Services include a Pharmacy, Laboratory, Dental Care, Emergency Medicine and a wide range of Family Practice and Primary Care offerings.
