Travel: All inclusive - potentially shared housing with roommates.

Assignment Length:  3 months+

EMR: RPMS

Schedule: M-F 8am-4:30pm, excluding federal holidays, no weekends, no OT


Additional Details about the position:

Potentially managing complex conditions:

  • Urgent issues which require medical/therapeutic management, traumas, post ops, glaucoma, macular degeneration, uveitis, diabetic retinopathy. Lash epilation, punctal dilation/irrigation, corneal and conjunctival FB removals, bandage CLs, pressure patch.


Official Scope:

  • Performing comprehensive eye examinations and refractions.
  • Diagnosing and managing ocular diseases, visual disorders, and injuries.
  • Prescribing corrective lenses and therapeutic medications as permitted by licensure.
  • Performing and interpreting diagnostic tests such as visual fields, fundus photography, and OCT.
  • Documenting all patient encounters in the Resource and Patient Management System (RPMS) or other IHS electronic health record systems.
  • Providing patient education and preventive eye health counseling.
  • Coordinating with other medical providers for referrals, co-management, and follow-up care.

Supporting BFSU quality improvement and public health vision programs as needed.


Support staff:

  • Currently one eye doctor on staff, one receptionist, one tech in optical. There is no support staff for the exams. 

 

Optometrist does every test from start to finish:

  • calling patients back to the rooms
  • Acuities
  • Lensometer
  • IOP
  • field testing
  • OCT
  • Optos
  • Autorefractor
  • FDT

 

There is no ophthalmology on site. Nearest one is over 100 miles away.



EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of two (2) years of recent clinical experience preferred.


CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

  • BLS (AHA)


LICENSURE REQUIREMENT

  • Doctor of Optometry (OD) from an accredited institution.
  • Current, unrestricted license to practice optometry in any U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia
  • ANY STATE LICENSE
