Additional Details about the position

  •  Provide comprehensive diabetic foot care services to patients with an approved referral, including routine foot exams; debridement of nails, calluses, ulcerations, and other skin lesions; and treatment of infections or ulcerations of the feet and lower legs, including prescribing antibiotics as appropriate.
  • Will diagnose and treat conditions such as peripheral neuropathy and diabetic-related gait abnormalities, including prescribing orthotics (functional and accommodative). Eligible patients may receive one pair of diabetic shoes and either two prefabricated inserts or one set of custom inserts per year, based on medical necessity and provider approval.
  • Perform fittings and measurements to ensure proper fit of diabetic shoes and/or inserts and will provide follow-up care for adjustments and patient concerns. Replacements will be prescribed for any unworn items that do not fit properly.
  • Submit prescriptions for shoes, inserts, orthotics, or other durable medical equipment to the Health Service Unit, which will coordinate ordering and fulfillment through its DME provider.
  • Document and maintain accurate patient records in the EHR system, ensuring all documentation and services comply with Indian Health Service (IHS), CMS, accrediting body standards, and all applicable state and federal laws and regulations.
  • The contractor will have (1) RN or (1) Health Tech available to assist during exams and / or procedures.


Laboratory/Specialty Equipment Used:

  • Desktop and/or laptop with Electronic Health Record access will be provided by the Health Service Unit.
  • Contractor must supply podiatry-related equipment, like nippers, scalpels, and other tools specific to podiatry.


CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS 

  • NPI (National Provider Identifier)

 

LICENSURE REQUIREMENT 

  • Any State Podiatrist License
