Schedule: Typical days are 630-1500 with call 1500-700 and 24/7 on the weekendsÂ
PROCEDURES:
- Prepare the operating room, instruments, equipment, and supplies for surgical procedures
- Maintain a sterile field and adhere to strict aseptic/sterile technique throughout all cases
- Perform surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving
- Set up sterile tables, Mayo stands, and back tables with required instrumentation
- Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and pass instruments, supplies, and medications as needed
- Perform accurate counts of sponges, sharps, and instruments with the circulating nurse
- Assist with patient positioning, prepping, and draping while maintaining patient dignity and safety
- Participate in surgical timeout and safety protocols
- Handle and process tissue specimens appropriately
- Clean, disinfect, and sterilize instruments and equipment following procedures
- Assist in room turnover and preparation for subsequent cases
- Support ultrasound-guided or other procedural needs when applicable
- Participate in supply inventory management and maintain PAR levels
- Provide excellent patient-centered care and customer service
- Maintain accurate documentation and logs
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Surgical Services or Administration
REQUIREMENTS
- Formal education in sterile processing preferred; must maintain current knowledge of best practices in sterile technique and processing
- Previous experience in an operating room or surgical setting preferred
- Strong understanding of anatomy, surgical procedures, and aseptic technique
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a small hospital environment
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a team-oriented mindset
CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) strongly preferred or desired
- BLS
- NRP (within 18 months of hire)
